The Turkish violist Öykü Canpolat-Rast is one of the most promising young musicians of her generation. In 2015 she won first prize and the audience prize for the best interpretation of a classical work at the 7th International Syzmon Goldberg Competition in Meißen. Since 2016 she has been deputy principal violist in the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2020 she moved to the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne as first solo viola player. Since 2022 she has also been a member of the orchestra of the Bayreuth Wagner Festival, where she plays as principal and assistant principal violist.


From October 2023

She works as a professor of viola at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts, played as a solo violist with important orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra and the MDR Symphony Orchestra among the most renowned conductors in our country today like Sir Simon RaQle, Chris.an Thielemann, Kirill Petrenko, Andris Nelsons, Daniel Harding, Francois Xavier-Roth, Herbert Blomstedt and Daniel Barenboim. She also played soloists in works such as R. Strauss' Don QuichoQe, Carl Maria von Weber's Andante e Rondo Ungarese, Franz Schubert's Arpeggione and W. Walton's Viola Concerto with the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Izmir Symphony Orchestra and other well-known orchestras. She also took part in various chamber music CD productions.


Life

Born in Izmir in 1993, Viola began her studies at Çe.n Aydar (Dokuz Eylül University Izmir State Conservatory) in 2002. In 2013 she continued her bachelor's studies at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin with Prof. Pauline Sachse and Prof. Friedemann Weigle. From 2015 she studied at the Berlin Hanns Eisler University of Music in the class of Prof. Tabea Zimmermann and completed her studies there in 2019 with top grades (Summa Cum Laude).
